‘Tis the season to take a break and enjoy a little bit of peace and quiet. And why not do that with a warm, steaming cup of creamy hot chocolate? We hope you enjoy this holiday recipe from our team at PLS Classes.
Homemade Hot Chocolate
2 cups of milk (You can also use almond milk)
4 oz of dark, bittersweet or semi-sweet chocolate
1-2 TBS of sugar
Warm milk over low heat in a saucepan. Add 1-2 TBS of sugar. Bring the milk up to about 140 degrees F. If you do not have a thermometer, you can tell that it’s ready when small bubbles start to form on the milk. (Do not let your milk boil or get too hot.) While the milk is warming, chop up the chocolate with a sharp knife. Warm the chocolate in the microwave for about 20-30 seconds. Remove milk from the burner. Slowly whisk in the melted chocolate. This method will result in a thick and creamy hot chocolate. Enjoy.
Over the Top Hot Chocolate
Peppermint bark hot chocolate
Top your beverage with whipped cream or marshmallows and sprinkle with chopped up pieces of candy cane.
Spicy hot chocolate
Add some heat to your cup of hot chocolate by whisking in a pinch of cayenne, 1 tsp of cinnamon, and 1/4 tsp. chipotle powder or chili powder. Trust us this is delicious!
Salted caramel hot chocolate
Top with marshmallows or whipped cream and drizzle caramel sauce on top. Sprinkle a pinch of sea salt over the caramel.
Happy hour hot chocolate
Sorry kids this one’s for the adults! Stir in an ounce of your favorite sweet liquor such as Baileys Irish Cream, Cointreau, or Kahlua. Now that’s dessert!
