Professional Experience:

I remember sitting around a campfire when I was six years old, telling my family that I wanted to become a teacher. My desire to share my knowledge with students has never waned.

Since my graduation with my Bachelors degree in English and Social Sciences/Secondary Education in 2004, I have never stopped taking courses. My first Master’s degree was in Classroom Development and Strategies, and I finished additional programs in Educational Leadership and Online Teaching through Wilkes University.

Teaching Experience:

My first 19.5 years in education had me teaching English / Language Arts and U.S. History I to eighth grade students, a vibrant group of adolescents who made me laugh every day. I now teach high school English. It has been an interesting journey!

I enjoy online classes for the challenge they bring and the interactions I have with my classmates. I learn best from this setting; I hope the same will hold true for you!

Personal Information:

I was born and raised in Scranton, Pennsylvania, then I moved to Lancaster, PA. when I graduated from college. I live with my husband, where we are always remodeling our house and taking care of our two dogs, koi, and a turtle. We adopted a baby girl in June 2010 and a baby boy in December 2012.

I enjoy reading a variety of books, taking classes, watching movies, and playing my violin (when time permits!).

PLS provides opportunities for educators to learn the theory and then apply it to their content areas. I love walking away from courses with new activities that I can implement tomorrow. As a PLS student and instructor, my interactions with our participants gives me greater insight into how student-centered our classrooms are becoming.

I had secondary English and Social Studies teachers who made learning come alive for me. I truly enjoyed their classes and the classroom environment they fostered. My love of humanities continued into my post-secondary journey as well.

I play the violin for fun. I started in elementary school and middle school; I took a break until my second year of teaching. I have continued playing ever since!

For a while, I considered becoming a lawyer. I particularly enjoy learning about family law.

Participants appreciate that I ask questions that extend their thinking. Comments like this reinforce why I love interacting with participants.
