As an educator for almost 28 years, I hope to share insight and support as we all continue to grow. My career has taken me from creating and leading a KinderKamp program for a local YMCA to Jobs Corps and on to secondary education teaching English for English Language Learners, English Literature, Creative Writing, and Theatre Arts. Each step in this journey has been fulfilling in its own way. I earned a B.S. in Early Childhood and Elementary Education, an ESL Specialist certification, a B.S. in Secondary English, and an M. Ed. in Educational Technology.
My previous experiences helped me tackle my current high school students in ways I may not have been able to otherwise. High school students are their own breed. Not only do they need all of the academics that school provides, but they also need to be given opportunities to see themselves as growing adults. Success is different for every student, but every student needs to feel successful. Growing confidence and the ability to seek out resources when needed is a tough balance for adolescents. That being said, I wouldn’t trade my high school kids for anything.
As the child of a 35-year Special Educator, my desire to help people has always been a driving force. No one gets where they are without help. As we have been guided, so should we guide. We should always make the most of our opportunities and interactions.
As we all know, teachers don’t live at school or sleep in the teachers’ lounge. My husband, Brian, and I are always up to something. He is an architectural photographer. We love Philadelphia Union soccer. We both read and enjoy some quiet time too. Two of our three children also love soccer! Our oldest played in England for a year which was awesome. He now serves in the US Coast Guard. Our daughter is a chef, and the youngest is a mason.
Our music tastes cross all genres. Dancing is mandatory! Life is too short. Traveling and dreaming up places to travel is so much fun. One day we will venture out with some well-made plans that can include our two best pups, Juneau and Bayden!
