Jen says: “It has been awhile since I’ve listened to this, but I love a quick (3-10 minute) lesson on something I can use in my classroom. I’ve used lots of her scenarios in my own lessons, and I’ve even assigned my seniors to listen to ten a year and write reflections.
Jim Brinling Recommends The Hidden Brain Podcast
Synopsis: Shankar Vedantam uses science and storytelling to reveal the unconscious patterns that drive human behavior, shape our choices and direct our relationships.
Jim says: “I enjoy and use ‘Hidden Brain’ in my psychology, sociology, and economics courses. It’s so well done, even my students enjoy them when I play them in class.”
Lisa Lebo Recommends Stuff You Missed in History Class
Synopsis: Hosted by Tracy Wilson and Holly Frey, this podcast dives into subjects not found in standard high school history textbooks.
Lisa says: “In school, I never learned about the history of The White House’s rose garden, a unicorn, the carousel, or the traffic light. Filled with random “stuff” like this, this podcast fills in some big history blanks you never knew you wanted to know!”
Chris VonVolkenburg Recommends Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me from NPR
Synopsis: Each Wednesday, host Emma Choi takes the story everyone’s talking about and uses it as an excuse to hang out with culture makers, Wait Wait panelists, and hilarious new comedians.
Chris says: “I love learning from the trivia questions, but mainly I think the interactions between the hosts, the guests, and the participants are hilarious and genuine. I find it to be the best kind of human interaction. It is also one of my favorite ways to destress on a nice long car ride.”
Lisa Ciampi Recommends SmartLess
Synopsis: Each episode connects and unites people from all walks of life to learn about shared experiences through thoughtful dialogue and organic hilarity.
Lisa says: “This is one of my many favorite podcasts because the hosts (Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett) interview unique and renowned individuals while providing humor throughout. They have interviewed everyone from Neil deGrasse Tyson to Paul McCartney. This podcast often makes me laugh out loud while I am listening. “
Our Team Recommends Barkley Ponders Out Loud
Synopsis: Steve Barkeley is the Chief Learning Officer and EVP of PLS 3rd Learning (our parent company) and his podcast is nothing short of excellent. In each episode, Steve shares insight on important educational topics, answers questions, and explores educational best practices, based on his over-30 year career as an education consultant to school districts, teacher organizations, state departments of education, and colleges and universities nationally and internationally.
Steve recently expanded his podcast to include podcasts for parents as learning partners and teachers. You can easily sort each type of episode on his site.
