Mindfulness May is here, and what better way for students to learn the concept of mindfulness than to have them put their five senses to the test?
May is National Mental Health Awareness Month which can be an extremely stressful time for students as they approach final exam week and end-of-year projects.
According to mindful.org, mindfulness is defined as the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us.
Promoting mindfulness in the classroom has many benefits including anxiety and stress reduction, increased focus, development of social-emotional learning skills, and much more.
The objective of our mindfulness activity is for students to develop this important skill by using their five senses to become aware of their surroundings and the present moment. They will observe things that they wouldn’t normally acknowledge which can eventually develop a valuable mindset for their mental health.
